Images for ASU4 – Vitrine Display

My thanks to David Wright, curator at the Wisbech & Fenland Museum, Wisbech, for allowing me to take these pictures. The Wisbech Museum is a perfect embodiment of the Victorian museum ideal. I love the fact that even the labels represent a kind of evolutionary timeline; from faded hand-written scraps of paper, to type-written script, to modern, digitally printed display boards.

Isn’t it remarkable how things always come back to Duchamp? I’ve been thinking about his Portable Museum and how the idea could be adapted to a contemporary art handling collection…
